Eat Your Greens

Actually we did eat them. And this “watercolor” image is all that is left of my early harvests of mini broccoli.

I’m bringing back my Watercolor Wednesdays, posting a garden photo that I processed through the Waterlogue app. Yes, I know this is cheating, but you would not be impressed with my own watercolor skills.

The subject of this painting was a good variety of mini broccoli from Johnny’s Selected Seeds. I started the plants indoors on March 22nd and planted them out the second week of May. We had first harvest in early June. Only had 6 plants but harvested enough for two dinners. You can cut off the first heads and this variety pushes out a few smaller heads ready for another small crop.

I’ll try another planting towards end of summer as temps cool down. Broccoli performs better in cooler weather. Best to start seedlings indoors under controlled temps and light. I’ll report back, but for now, I can savor this image of what’s to come.
