Making a Grand Entrance

On a recent trip to Boston, I was impressed with the beautiful entrances many city dwellers created for their Beacon Hill town homes. Not deterred by limited soil,  these Bostonians have created wonderful curb appeal with planters, window boxes, climbing vines and decorative wreaths.

Most houses in this historical district already possessed marvelous architecture, constructed in the Federal, Greek Revival or Victorian style during the 19th century. Theie entryways, with glossy painted doors surrounded by detailed sidelights and transoms, reveal such superb and unique craftsmanship rarely seen on newly constructed houses. The added greenery transforms these residences from looking like bygone relics to vibrant, lovingly-cared-for homes.

I'm thankful to have been treated to so many enchanting and inspiring facades as I toured the picturesque streets.  I now have several new ideas to enhance my Hamptons home entry.
